Science in PE?

February 16th, 2012 · No Comments

Today I observed our grade 4 students learning about heart rates  in gym class. The PE teachers had the students  running around and then stopping to get their pulse and listen to their heart rate with a stethoscope (below).  This was a great way for us to integrate health science into a PE class and realize the power  in interdisciplinary studies (mixing PE with Science). What other subjects can we bring together to maximize student learning? How could math and art support each other? Music and Engineering?

Just between you (the reader) and I ,  Project Adventure was always a little scary for me when I was in school.  Maybe it was the heights?

Thirty years later I have the pleasure of watching our Lane students accomplish their own Project Adventure goals.  Seeing the students help one another and cheer each other on, is exactly the type of character we are looking to build in our students.  Take a peek at this short video to get a flavor for what our kids do.
